S.O.S. Chaos formed in Brazil in the early 1980s with guitarist Chicão, bassist Rubem, and drummer Marcelo. They worked through the usual early struggles of an underground band, developing a raw metal sound that didn't fit neatly into categories.
Their 1986 single "Brasil" became a national talking point for its direct criticism of social and political conditions. Other tracks like "Favelas," "Guerra," and "Ódio Sem Fim" continued in that confrontational vein.
They released albums including S.O.S. Chaos in 1985, Cruel in 1987, A Lenda Continua in 1989, Brasil in 1992, and Alma De Rock in 1994. Chicão remained through various lineup changes that included vocalist Zé Felipe, guitarist Henrique Borges, and bassist Rodrigo Nogueira at different points.
