Sou Gio

Sou Gio is a Rome-based ensemble that blends traditional Mediterranean sounds with electronic production. The group formed around three musicians, Marco Zanotti, Carlo Maver, and Marco Siniscalco, and later added vocalist Annabel Lee. Their name comes from an ancient Roman deity associated with the west wind, which they've said reflects their interest in change and movement.

Their debut album, Passar, arrived in 2016 and gave the band its first wider attention. The title track, "Passar," draws on Italian folk melodies and became something of a calling card for their approach. Other songs like "Poltrona" and "Voar" show the same mix of acoustic instrumentation and electronic textures.

They've released two more albums since then, Echoes of the Wind in 2018 and The Seven Seas in 2021. The lineup remains the same four members, with Lee's vocals floating over Zanotti's guitar and electronics, Maver's violin and keyboards, and Siniscalco's percussion. Their sound hasn't shifted dramatically from that first record, it's still built around that blend of old and new, with a clear Mediterranean feel.
