Sound of Life formed in Manhattan in 2005 with Emily Carter on vocals, Ethan James on guitar, David Cohen on bass, and Mark Anderson on drums. They released their debut EP 'Echoes of the Soul' in 2008, followed by their first full-length album 'Sleep' in 2010. The title track from that album became their most recognizable song.
Their music draws from alternative rock and indie folk, with lyrics that touch on personal themes. Another track, 'Sounds Like Life To Me (Waiting)', shows their atmospheric approach. In 2012, they dealt with a legal dispute with their former manager, which was eventually resolved.
