Soundgarden's success was not without its challenges. Internal tensions and Sundquist's departure led to the band's temporary hibernation in the late 1990s. In 1997, Matt Cameron (former Pearl Jam drummer) officially joined Soundgarden, bringing stability and a renewed sense of purpose.
