Archive material and source history
Spacehog formed in Newcastle, England in the mid-1990s, led by vocalist and songwriter Royston Langdon. Their debut album 'Resident Alien' came out in 1995, and its single 'In The Meantime' became a global hit with its catchy hooks and ethereal melodies.
After that initial success, the band faced some rough patches. Langdon was arrested for cocaine possession in 2002, which led to a temporary hiatus. There were also internal tensions and a lawsuit from a former manager around that time.
They kept making albums through it all. 'The Chinese Album' in 1998 showed their experimental side, and 'Happiness Is Not a Fish That You Can Catch' in 2001 felt more introspective. The lineup has stayed mostly consistent with Langdon, bassist Richard Baxter, guitarist Anthony Cross, and drummer Jonny Cragg.
