Spooky Tooth formed in 1967 with Mike Harrison on vocals, Luther Grosvenor on guitar, Greg Ridley on bass, Mike Kellie on drums, and Gary Wright on keyboards. They came up through the British rock scene of the late 1960s, playing small venues while dealing with the usual early-band problems like shaky management and tight money.

Their second album, 'Spooky Two' from 1969, had the song 'Evil Woman,' which got some radio play and charted in the U.S. and Europe. That track, along with others like 'Better By You, Better Than Me' and 'The Mirror,' gave them a foothold. Their sound mixed blues and rock with some progressive touches, which made them a bit harder to pin down than some of their peers.

Wright and Kellie left in the early 1970s, but Harrison, Grosvenor, and Ridley kept the band going for a few more years, making albums that leaned further into experimental territory. They broke up in the late 1970s, leaving behind a handful of records that still turn up in used bins and playlists for people digging into that era.
