Sports Boyfriend formed in 2015 around singer-songwriter Michael O'Connell, guitarist Ben Haggerty, bassist Adam Pierce, and drummer Dan Casazza. The band's name came from Haggerty's interest in sports and O'Connell's time working at a sporting goods store. They put out their debut single 'Blue Lagoon' in 2018, which caught some attention with its dreamy, introspective feel.
Their self-titled debut album arrived in 2019. In 2021, O'Connell stepped down as frontman after accusations of inappropriate behavior surfaced. The band took a break and returned in 2023 with a new lineup that included singer Max Shein. They've announced a second album called 'Comfort Zone' for 2024.
