S.R.C.C.A.S Unidos de Vila Isabel formed in 1948 when a group of samba enthusiasts gathered in a backyard in the Vila Isabel neighborhood. The name stands for Sociedade Recreativa e Carnavalesca Candido Castilho do Andaraí. They built their sound around Samba de Quadra, a style known for energetic drumming and storytelling vocals.
Their catalog includes songs like 'Samba de Quadra - Minha Vila Isabel Querida' and 'Samba-Enredo 2012 - Ibia Mon: Minha História, Minha Raiz.' They've recorded samba-enredos for various years, including 1989's 'Brasil Criança de Cinderela a He-man' and 2022's 'Miraguaí! Povo Alegre em um Porto Alegre!'
Past members have included Nilton do Cavaco on vocals, Zé Carlos on cavaquinho, Bira on pandeiro, and Carlinhos on surdo. The lineup has changed at times, but the group has maintained a presence in their neighborhood and in Brazilian samba circles.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
