A Carnival samba school from Rio that mixed traditions with outside sounds for decades.
For their mix of tradition and other sounds, try 'As Origens do Samba' from 1977. Their later neighborhood pride comes through in the 2022 song about Santana.
S.R.C.E.S Acadêmicos da Orgia worked within the samba enredo tradition but brought in rock and funk elements, which wasn't common for Carnival parade music. Their 1977 track 'As Origens do Samba' shows their early approach to the form. They kept making these theme-driven songs about everything from television soap operas to neighborhood pride, from the late 1970s into the 2020s.
They formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1972. Their catalog shows them making samba-enredos with specific yearly themes, like a 1982 song about soap operas and a 2011 song declaring 'Os Anos 80 Voltaram.' They were still putting out songs like their 2022 declaration of passion for the Santana neighborhood.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
