St Francis Hotel came out of Seattle in the late 1990s. Their debut album 'The Wake' arrived in 1998, and its single 'Collide' got some attention for its atmospheric feel. The band was led by singer Scott Shields.
Internal tensions, particularly between Shields and guitarist Steve Mack, surfaced around the time of their second album 'Loose' in 2000. That record moved away from the sound of their debut. Shields also had public struggles with substance abuse, which included a DUI arrest in 2004.
Shields left the group in 2006. The band tried to carry on without him, but that didn't last. They are remembered for a couple of songs, like 'Collide' and a later track called 'Milkshake' that featured Portugal. The Man.
