Background notes

Archive material and source history

St. John formed in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1986 with Steve "Zetro" Souza on vocals. They put out their debut album "Blood from the Stone" in 1988. Souza left the band in 1988 after an arrest, and John Morgan took over as vocalist.

Their 1992 album "Willing to Die" gave them their most recognizable song, the title track. The album before that, 1991's "Symphonies of Pain," drew some criticism for its graphic content. The band released seven studio albums in total.

They were known for aggressive vocals and heavy guitars. Their live shows had a reputation for being explosive.
