Star Academy was a new wave band that formed in 1979. Their debut single "Video Killed the Radio Star" became a hit in the early 1980s, reaching number one on several charts. The song's futuristic lyrics and catchy melody captured something about the time when music videos were becoming important, and it was one of the first videos aired on MTV.
They released other songs like "A Bicyclette" and "A Contre Sens Sens," but never matched the success of that first single. The band had some lineup changes and eventually broke up in 1987. In 2014, the original members reunited for a one-off performance.
