Star One was put together in 2002 by Dutch keyboardist Arjen Anthony Lucassen. He brought in a few recognizable names from the prog and metal worlds to help realize his space opera concept, including vocalist John Wetton from King Crimson, guitarist Steve Hackett from Genesis, and former Black Sabbath frontman Tony Martin.
Their first album, 'Space Metal,' came out that same year. It's a concept record built around space exploration themes, anchored by the track 'Intergalactic Space Crusaders.' They followed it up eight years later with 'Victims of the Modern Age' in 2010, which took a more grounded, societal look compared to the cosmic scope of the debut.
The music leans heavily into progressive rock with metal and symphonic touches. Beyond 'Intergalactic Space Crusaders,' other songs like 'Revel In Time,' 'Songs Of The Ocean,' and 'The Eye Of Ra' round out their catalog of theatrical, narrative-driven rock.
