Starset

Starset formed in 2013 when Dustin Bates, previously of Downplay, started the band with Ron DeChant on drums, Brock Richards on guitar, and Evan Birts on keyboards. Their debut album 'Transmissions' came out the following year, introducing a sound that mixed atmospheric alternative metal with science fiction themes. Early songs like 'My Demons' and 'It Has Begun' established their approach, pairing heavy guitar work with Bates' clean, soaring vocals.

They followed with 'Vessels' in 2017 and 'Divisions' in 2019, each continuing to explore cosmic and introspective lyrical territory. Tracks such as 'Monster' and 'Carnivore' became staples in their setlists, built around melodic hooks and layered production. The band's live shows often incorporate visual elements that complement their conceptual themes.

Bates remains the primary songwriter and frontman, steering Starset's narrative-driven material. Their music tends to avoid straightforward personal confession in favor of broader questions about technology, existence, and human nature, wrapped in accessible rock structures.
