The Statler Brothers formed in Virginia in the early 1950s, originally with brothers Phil, Harold, and Don Reynolds alongside their cousin Jimmy Fortune. They took their name from the Statler Hotel where they often performed, a nod to comedian Oliver Hardy who owned it. Their sound was built around close vocal harmonies, and they found their first major success in 1964 with 'Flowers on the Wall.'
That breakthrough led to a steady run of country hits through the 1960s and 1970s. Songs like 'Bed of Rose's' and 'The Old Country Church' became staples, mixing gospel influences with straightforward country storytelling. They recorded numerous albums, including 'Flowers on the Wall' in 1965 and 'Bed of Roses' in 1968.
Don Reynolds retired from the group in 2002. In 2018, Jimmy Fortune and Harold Reynolds' son Paul started a new group called The Statler Brothers Revisited.
