Status Zero formed in São Paulo in the mid-1980s as a quartet with Alastair Cameron on vocals and guitar, Marcelo Terra on bass, Dirceu Brasil on keyboards, and Ricardo Pontes on drums. Their debut album 'Eu Vi' came out in 1987, and its title track became an anthem for many Brazilian listeners at the time. The band's sound had a post-punk and new wave feel that connected with São Paulo's youth.
The 1990 album 'O Lado Escuro da Lua' explored darker themes like suicide and drug addiction, reflecting some of Cameron's personal struggles. Despite the controversies, Status Zero kept releasing albums through the 1990s, including 'Sonhos de Uma Noite de Verão' in 1993 and 'A Felicidade É uma Viagem' in 1997.
By the early 2000s, the original lineup had dissolved. Terra and Brasil left in 2000, followed by Pontes in 2003. Cameron continued with new musicians, putting out albums like 'Um Novo Amanhã' in 2006 and 'Eu Voltei' in 2017. Songs like 'Eu vi' and 'Fatos' remain part of their catalog from those earlier years.
