Status21 formed in Monza, Italy around 2007, with Dario Mangiaracina on vocals, Luca Farinelli on guitar, Marco Bonfanti on bass, and Marco Torresi on drums. They started playing local venues, and their first single "Goodbye" came out in 2009. Their debut album "Storie di Vita" arrived in 2010 and reached number one on the Italian charts.
Their second album "Futuro Incerto" came out in 2012, featuring the title track that became their most recognizable song. In 2012, Italian singer-songwriter Max Pezzali accused the band of plagiarism regarding similarities between "Futuro Incerto" and his song "Gli Anni." The band denied the allegations, and the matter was resolved through legal proceedings.
Guitarist Luca Farinelli left in 2015 to pursue a solo career, and Matteo Rossi joined on guitar. They released a live album "Live in Roma" in 2014 and another studio album "Il Mio Mondo" in 2017.
