Stella

Stella formed in 1990, originally calling themselves The Ootjes. The Dutch band's lineup included bassist Jan Dulles, guitarist Arjan Schelhaas, and drummer Fred van Essen. They found their footing with their debut album 'Suzanne' in 1995, which contained the song "'n Moeder maakt zich altijd zorgen." That track became something of a quiet anthem in the Netherlands, connecting with listeners in a way that felt both specific and universal.

The band denied accusations that their work promoted harmful ideas, but the conversation around that record stuck with them. Through it all, they kept making music and touring, building a catalog that included songs like "AMIZADE" and "'t Kerstfeest is voor iedereen."

In 2014, Jan Dulles left the group. He had been their frontman and primary songwriter, so his departure marked a significant shift for Stella. The existing history doesn't detail what came next, but the band's earlier work, particularly that 1995 breakthrough, remains what most Dutch listeners remember them for.
