Archive material and source history
Stereo Moog formed in 1980 around Richard "Dick" Danello, who had previously played with Os Mutantes, and Luiz Caldas, who came from the Axé scene. Their first album, "Tropicalista Pancadão," came out in 1981 and included the song "Quando Se Quer Alguém," which became a hit.
They put out several more records through the mid-80s, like "O Trem Chegou" in 1982 and "Nebulosa" in 1984. Their sound mixed electronic rhythms with Brazilian styles, and some of their lyrics drew criticism at the time for being too explicit. Danello served a prison sentence for drug possession in 1984, but the group kept working after he got out.
