Stéreo-Tipo started in Monterrey, Mexico in 1994. Their self-titled debut came out the next year, and they built a following with songs like "Hábitos Noturnos," which became a kind of youth anthem for its direct take on nightlife and desire. The band's early lineup included Santiago Navarrete on vocals, Enrique "Kike" García on guitar, René Garza on bass, and Héctor Rodríguez on drums.
They put out a series of albums simply numbered Stéreo-Tipo through the late '90s and early 2000s. In 2008, drummer Héctor Rodríguez died, and the band brought in Axel Villa before releasing "Entre el Cielo y el Infierno" in 2012. Their catalog also includes later work like "Fantasmas" from 2019.
Songs like "Me Faça Feliz," "Nicotina," and "Pele e Osso" show their mix of alternative rock and pop with some electronic touches. The lyrics often dealt plainly with themes that drew criticism from conservative corners, but the band kept writing what felt real to them.
