Stereo Total formed in Berlin in 1993 around Swiss singer Françoise Cactus and German guitarist Brezel Göring. Cactus had been in a punk band called Les Lullies before this. Their first album, 'Oh Ah!', came out in 1995. They followed it with records like 'Monokini' in 1997 and 'Jukebox' in 2000.
Their music pulls from French chanson, bossa nova, and electro-pop, often with a light, surreal touch. You can hear it in songs like 'Lunatique' and 'Cosmonaute'. They sing in multiple languages, including French on tracks like 'Je suis venu te dire que je m'en vais'.
In 2010, a planned show in Poland was called off after some local complaints. The band kept making music, with Françoise Cactus handling most of the vocals and lyrics until her death in 2021.
