Archive material and source history

Stereolab formed in the late 1980s with Laetitia Sadier on vocals and Tim Gane on guitar. Their early albums like 'Peng!' and 'Transient Random-Noise Bursts with Announcements' mixed lounge music, bossa nova, and electronic sounds in ways that didn't fit neatly into existing categories.

By the mid-1990s they'd developed a more polished approach while keeping their experimental edge. 'Emperor Tomato Ketchup' and 'Dots and Loops' featured tracks like 'Cybele's Reverie' and 'Miss Modular' that combined motorik rhythms with Sadier's detached vocal delivery and political lyrics. The band worked with Chicago producer John McEntire during this period.

Their lineup included Mary Hansen on backing vocals and Andy Ramsay on drums. They released music steadily through the 2000s before going on hiatus in 2009. Songs like 'Ping Pong' and 'Come And Play In The Milky Night' show their particular blend of pop structures and avant-garde textures.
