Steven Tyler was born Stephen Victor Tallarico in 1948. He became the frontman of Aerosmith, a band that formed in 1970 with guitarist Joe Perry, bassist Tom Hamilton, drummer Joey Kramer, and rhythm guitarist Ray Tabano. Their sound pulled from blues and rock, and they built a reputation on high-energy live shows.
Aerosmith's 1975 album 'Toys in the Attic' was their commercial breakthrough, featuring hits like 'Sweet Emotion' and 'Walk This Way.' But one of their most enduring songs came earlier. 'Dream On,' released in 1973, became a kind of generational touchstone with its slow-building arrangement and Tyler's raw, soaring vocal. It's still the song people mention first.
Tyler has also recorded solo material, including songs like 'Love is Your Name' and 'Only Heaven.' His career has had its share of personal struggles, including substance abuse issues that led to rehab stints. Through it all, that voice, the one on 'Dream On' and later on massive ballads like 'I Don't Want To Miss a Thing', remained unmistakable.
