Stevie Salas started playing guitar young in Oakland, California, drawing from players like Jimi Hendrix and Albert King. His debut album 'Stevie Salas Colorcode' came out in 1987, and the single 'Tell Your Story Walkin'' got some attention at the time.
He kept making records through the 1990s and 2000s, putting out albums like 'The Electric Pow Wow' and 'Shapeshifter'. The music mixed rock with blues and funk, and he worked with musicians including bassist Ricky Fuss and drummer Steve Ferrone.
In 1999, Salas was in a motorcycle accident that caused serious injuries. He wrote about that experience and other challenges in a 2016 memoir called 'The Sun Doesn't Shine at Night'.
