Archive material and source history

Sting was born Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner in 1951. He first gained attention as the bassist and singer for The Police, a trio with Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland that mixed punk, reggae, and new wave on hits like "Roxanne" and "Message in a Bottle."

After The Police disbanded in 1986, he started a solo career with the album "The Dream of the Blue Turtles." His songs often lean toward introspection, as heard on tracks like "Shape of My Heart" and "Fields of Gold." Later work includes "Desert Rose," which brought a different texture to his sound.

He has released albums steadily since, including "Ten Summoner's Tales" in 1993 and "Songs from the Labyrinth" in 2019. The music draws from jazz, reggae, and classical influences, but stays centered on his voice and bass playing.
