Stone Irr

Stone Irr formed in the late 1970s, with Jasper Stone on vocals and guitar, Iris Smoke on keyboards, and Orion Rain on drums. Their debut album 'Chinese Lamps' came out in 1981, giving them a song that stuck around long after the record left the shelves. They followed it with albums like 'White Noise' in 1984 and 'Shadow Play' in 1988, working in a space between experimental rock and something more atmospheric.

Their catalog includes songs like 'Down Stair,' 'Estranged,' and 'Exploder,' which share that hazy, textured quality people remember from 'Chinese Lamps.' They kept recording into the 1990s with 'The Mirror World' and put together a collection of unreleased material called 'Lost in Time' in 2002. The band's sound never really fit neatly into mainstream rock, which suited their listeners fine.

Stone Irr's lineup stayed consistent through those years, with Jasper's vocals and Iris's keyboard layers defining much of what they did. They weren't a group that chased trends or big commercial breaks, which gave their music a particular kind of staying power for people who found it.
