Stoned Crows formed in Liverpool in 2015 as a quartet with Leah Doucet on vocals and guitar, Rich Battersby on guitar, Harry McVeigh on bass, and Josh Morgan on drums. They put out a self-titled EP the following year. Their 2019 album AutoImmune included the track of the same name, along with songs like Câncer and Essa Noite. Doucet wrote some of that material while dealing with autoimmune disease, which gave the lyrics a particular weight. The band took a break in 2020 after Doucet faced online harassment, but they returned to release Teenage Mutant Riot Grrrl in 2022.
