Stray Dogg is a New York-based indie rock collective led by Chris Cain. Their sound pulls from blues, jazz, and folk, with Cain's gruff vocals at the center. The band includes multi-instrumentalist Danny Ray, drummer Bobby "Blue" Banks, and bassist Max "Groove" Miller.
Their song "Time" features Devendra Banhart's vocals, and other tracks like "1,2,3" and "Crimson Moon" show their range. Early on, some critics called their music too raw, but they kept working with their own approach.
In 2009, a festival performance by Cain sparked protests from conservative groups. After that, the band became more vocal about social justice issues. They've kept making music that doesn't fit neatly into categories, with a live energy that comes through even on recordings.
