Street 8

Street 8 formed in Rio de Janeiro in the early 2000s, taking their name from the city's eighth administrative region. They came together around funk carioca, a local style built on heavy beats and direct lyrics. Their 2008 debut album 'Banca Foda' gave them a breakthrough, with the title track becoming a street anthem.

That album established their sound, raw, percussive, and tied to Rio's favela culture. The original lineup included MC Scooby, MC Léo da Serrinha, MC Cidão, MC Nem, DJ Buda, and DJ Leandro. They kept releasing records through the 2010s, like 'Nosso Bonde É Cria' in 2010 and 'O Baile do Funk' in 2016.

Their music often drew attention for its explicit content and confrontational energy, which sometimes led to clashes with authorities. They built a following that appreciated their unfiltered approach to funk. The group marked 15 years with a 2018 release called 'Street 8: 15 Anos de Rua'.
