Subtera formed in Philadelphia in 1988, with Chris Holmes on vocals and guitar, Dave Benecke on bass, and Mike DeFelice on drums. They were an industrial metal band that drew from the heavier, electronic-edged sounds of groups like Nine Inch Nails and Ministry.
They put out four albums between 1990 and 1996, including 'Acidity' and 'Pain Is God'. Their final record was 1996's 'Acid Rain', which featured the title track that got them wider attention. Other songs in their catalog include 'Altars Of Pride' and 'Capitalist Perversion'.
The band's lineup stayed fairly consistent, with Holmes and Benecke at the center. Joe McGinty and Joe Tomany also contributed on keyboards and programming at different points. Subtera stopped putting out music in the late 1990s.
