Suely e Os Kantikus

Suely e Os Kantikus formed in Brazil in the 1980s, with Suely Mesquita on vocals, Mingo Araújo on bass, Fernando Mola on guitar, and Marco Mattoli on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1985 and included the track 'Que Bacana,' which became a hit. They followed it with albums like 'Toca Essa' in 1987 and 'Novos Horizontes' in 1990, showing some shifts in their approach over those years.

Their music drew from Brazilian samba and funk, creating an energetic sound built for live performance. They released a live album in 1993 called 'Ao Vivo' that captured that side of the band. In 2000, they put out '20 Anos,' a collection that looked back on their work up to that point.

Early on, some of their lyrics faced censorship from government officials, which was a common challenge for artists at the time in Brazil. They also dealt with the usual pressures from record labels and some personal struggles among the members, which occasionally affected the band's momentum. Through it all, they kept making music that connected with listeners who appreciated their blend of rhythms and straightforward delivery.
