Sukone Tei

Sukone Tei is a Japanese electronic band that started making music in the mid-2000s. Their sound leans toward the experimental side, with industrial textures and ambient touches, often built from software and found sounds rather than traditional instruments. The name Sukone Tei comes from a Japanese phrase meaning 'empty hand,' which fits their approach.

Their 2007 song 'Declare War on All Voc@loid' stirred up conversation in the Vocaloid community. The track critiqued what they saw as the software's commercialization, and its lyrics were direct enough to draw both support and criticism. It appeared on their debut album Sick that same year.

Pinoko handles vocals and lyrics, Oda produces and programs the music, and Hiro creates the band's visual artwork. They've mentioned influences like Throbbing Gristle, Einstürzende Neubauten, Brian Eno, and Aphex Twin. Later albums like Hollow and Chaos continued their exploration of dark, textured electronic music, and they've worked with noise artist Merzbow.
