Sungmo was originally a six-member boy band called Supernova that formed in 2006. The group included Sungje, Kwangsu, Jihyuk, Geonil, Yoonhak, and Sungmo, who gave his name to the band when they rebranded in 2010.
Their 2010 single "The World (Sunshine)" became a hit after they shifted toward a darker sound. The song topped music charts and helped define their direction during that period.
In 2012, Sungmo was involved in a car accident that caused serious injuries. The band eventually regrouped and continued making music, though the incident affected their career trajectory.
