Sunn O)))

Sunn O))) formed in Seattle in 1998 around Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson. They started with a basic idea: take heavy guitar drones and push them as far as they could go, using volume and feedback to create a physical experience. Their early shows were known for being extremely loud and immersive, often leaving audiences unsure how to react.

Their first album, 'ØØ Void,' came out in 2000 and established their sound. Later records like 'Monoliths & Dimensions' and 'Altar' expanded on that foundation, sometimes bringing in collaborators like Attila Csihar from Mayhem. Songs such as 'Aghartha' and 'Báthory Erzsébet' from their catalog are built on slow-moving, distorted riffs that feel more like geological shifts than traditional music.

They've kept a consistent core as a duo, with O'Malley on guitar and Anderson on bass, while occasionally working with other musicians. The music isn't for everyone, it's been called noise by some, but they've stuck with their approach, focusing on the weight and texture of sound itself rather than conventional song structures.
