El Super Trucha formed in Monterrey, Nuevo León in 1984. The band included Mario Quintero Lara on vocals, Javier Ríos Valdez on drums, Jesús González on bass, Juan Gilberto Moreno on keyboards, and Rogelio González on guitar. Their music pulled from salsa, bolero, cumbia, and rock.
Their 1987 album 'Déjame Entrar' became a breakthrough, anchored by the title track. In 1995, drummer Javier Ríos Valdez died in a car accident, which deeply affected the group.
They continued recording after that loss, putting out albums like 'Las Mil y Una Noches' in 1991 and 'No Te Vayas' in 1995. Mario Quintero Lara died in 2019. Some former members have performed under the name El Trucha Jr.
