Supertramp

Supertramp formed in London in 1969 around Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson. Their early albums didn't catch much attention, but things changed with 1974's 'Crime of the Century.' That record gave them 'The Logical Song,' which became one of those radio staples that still turns up decades later.

They followed that with 'Breakfast in America' in 1979, which had 'Give a Little Bit' and 'Goodbye Stranger' on it. The band's sound was this particular mix of progressive rock structures and softer, more melodic pop, which gave them a pretty distinct place on the radio next to more straightforward rock acts.

Davies and Hodgson split in 1983, with Hodgson going solo and Davies keeping the Supertramp name with different musicians. They put out a few more albums after that, like 'Brother Where You Bound' and 'Slow Motion,' but the core period for most listeners remains those late '70s and early '80s records.
