Surfistas de Cristo formed in Brazil in the late 20th century, playing a mix of surf rock and punk with spiritual themes. Their name translates to "Surfers of Christ," which nods to both their coastal roots and their faith. The band included Carlinhos Brown, Beto Jamaica, and Hélio Bentes, who brought together percussion, bass, and vocals.

They released their debut album 'Surfando Verdadeiramente' in 1996, blending rock, funk, and reggae. The following year, their song 'Que Amor é Esse' became a hit, serving as a straightforward anthem of devotion. Other tracks like 'A Beleza' and 'Como É Bom' continued in this vein, offering upbeat, faith-driven rock.

Their lyrics sometimes addressed social or political issues, which drew criticism from more conservative religious circles. Still, they kept playing festivals like Rock in Rio and maintained a following. The band has taken breaks over time but has returned to perform and record new material.
