Suricato formed in Salvador, Brazil in 2002, playing a mix of surf rock and reggae. Their debut album 'Surfeiro' came out in 2004 and included the track 'Trem,' which became a hit. The band's lineup has included Rodrigo Suricato on vocals and guitar, Dedeco on drums, Rafael Costa on bass, Thales Jr. on percussion, and Hugo França on keyboards.
They followed up with albums like 'Não Importa o Tamanho do Tomate' in 2007 and 'Sol e Lua' in 2010. Other songs in their catalog include 'Pra Tudo Acontecer,' 'Um Tanto,' and 'Astronauta,' which features Melim. They've also recorded 'O Sanfoneiro Só Tocava Isso.'
In 2008, their song 'Palhaço do Funk' drew some criticism about cultural appropriation of funk carioca, a genre from Rio's favelas. They kept touring in Brazil and internationally after that. Later albums include 'Quarto Crescente' from 2013, 'Única Forma de Amor' from 2016, and 'Made in Bahia' from 2019.
