Archive material and source history

Surlife was a Brazilian band active in the early 2000s. Their self-titled debut album came out in 2003, followed by 'Palavras' in 2005. The group included Vanessa da Mata on vocals, Marcelo Camelo on guitar, and Tadeu Schmidt on drums, with Samuel Rosa appearing as an occasional collaborator.

Their second album, 'Palavras', featured a title track that became their most recognizable song. The record showed them working with pop, folk, and electronic sounds, moving away from more traditional Brazilian music forms.

There was some legal trouble with a former record label over royalties, which they eventually resolved. They released a few more albums through 2013, including 'Na Medida do Impossível' in 2007 and 'A Cor do Som' in 2011, along with a live recording.
