Surra

Surra formed in São Paulo in 2007 as a trio with Leo Ramos on vocals and guitar, Gui Almeida on bass, and Érico Moreira on drums. Their sound pulled from grunge, punk, and Brazilian folk, which gave their indie rock a particular local texture. In 2015, the single 'Bom Dia Senhor' broke through, appearing on their debut album O Que Eu Vejo. That song's direct melody and everyday lyrics connected with listeners, pushing the band out of the underground.

Their lyrics often addressed social and political themes, which sometimes drew criticism. The band kept writing in that vein on songs like 'Parabéns Aos Envolvidos' and 'Sempre Seremos Culpados.' In 2018, drummer Érico Moreira died suddenly. Ramos and Almeida decided to continue, bringing in Anderson Parisi on drums. They released the album Pra Sempre later that year.

Surra has put out four studio albums, including Algo Sobre o Futuro in 2021 and O Que Não Dizemos in 2023. Their later work incorporates more alternative rock and electronic touches, but the core of Ramos's singing and their guitar-driven arrangements remains. Tracks like 'Ultraviolência' and 'Escorrendo Pelo Ralo' show the band's continued focus on sharp, energetic songwriting.
