Background notes

Archive material and source history

Surrender formed in 2005 after a previous project didn't work out, with Riley Monroe as the vocalist. They started playing local shows while figuring out their sound, which eventually settled somewhere between indie, folk, and grunge. Their debut EP came out in 2008 and included the song "1953," which got some radio play.

That song "1953" became their most recognizable track, a ballad with straightforward lyrics and Monroe's voice carrying it. It led to their first full album, "Echoes of the Past," in 2009. They followed that with another album called "The Weight of Silence" in 2012, which had a somewhat different feel than their earlier work.

They've had another song called "Carrie" that people know, though it never got the same attention as "1953." The band has kept going since then, though they haven't released much new material in recent years.
