S'Villa is a South African band led by vocalist Ntandoyenkosi Mkhize, who grew up in the village of Ecaleni in KwaZulu-Natal. Their music draws from traditional Zulu melodies, which Mkhize began composing early on. He later worked with producer Sandile Zungu to shape the group's sound.
Their debut album 'Thula' came out in 2009, with the title track becoming a hit in South Africa. The record blended Zulu musical elements with contemporary harmonies. They've released several albums since, including 'Ekuseni' in 2012, 'Uhambe Nawe' in 2014, 'Phelile' in 2018, and 'Amandla' in 2022.
The band has faced some difficulties over time, including plagiarism accusations and the death of guitarist Bongani Masuku in a car accident in 2015. Other members have included Thembinkosi Mthembu on bass, Nduduzo Zondo on drums, and Nhlanhla Mbongwa on guitar.
