S.Volts formed in São Paulo in 1982, coming out of the city's punk scene. Their early years were lean, but they built a following with raw, energetic shows. The 1985 album 'Contra o Tempo' gave them a breakthrough.
The lineup has been fairly steady, with Paulo Miklos on vocals and guitar, Jackson Antunes on bass, Fábio Golfetti on drums, and Ciro Pessoa on guitar. Their sound pulls from punk and heavy metal, but also touches of Brazilian traditional music, which gives it a particular energy. Other songs like 'Meu Mundo Parou' and 'Fazendo o Certo' show the same direct, charged approach.
They kept releasing albums through the late '80s and early '90s, like 'A Noite dos Mortos Vivos' in 1986 and 'Mundo Novo' in 1993. The music evolved some, getting more textured on later records, but never lost its intensity. For a lot of fans, those early anthems still define what the band is about.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
