Sweethearts Of The Rodeo

Sweethearts of the Rodeo came together in Los Angeles in the late 1960s around singer-songwriter Dave Pearlman. The group included Rick Roberts on guitar, John McEuen on banjo, and Chris Hillman on bass, drawing early notice for a sound that mixed country and rock elements. Their self-titled debut album arrived in 1972, featuring the song 'Midnight Girl Sunset Town' that became a signature piece for them.

That debut record and later albums like 'Breakers' and 'Radio' established their place in what was then called country-rock. The band's lineup shifted over time, with musicians like Steve Postell, Tom Brumley, Al Perkins, and J.D. Souther passing through. Their catalog includes songs like 'Blue Sky,' 'Blue To The Bone,' and 'Deep River Blues' that reflect their blend of twang and rock energy.

While the group faced the usual strains of band life, they kept recording and playing. Their music, anchored by Pearlman's writing and that early L.A. configuration, left a straightforward body of work that appealed to listeners who liked country storytelling with a rock band's drive.
