Sweets formed in London in 1968, originally called The Sweetshop. The early lineup included vocalist Brian Connolly, guitarist Mick Tucker, bassist Steve Priest, and drummer John Tucker.
Through the 1970s they had more hits like "Ballroom Blitz," "Blockbuster!," and "Fox on the Run." Behind the scenes, the band dealt with internal conflicts and substance issues. Connolly left in 1979, and the group continued with a new singer, Paul Gadd. They put out albums like 1981's "Waters Down the Drain," which had the single "Love Is Like Oxygen."
Brian Connolly died in 1997 from complications related to alcohol. The band's catalog, including songs like "Arigatou" and "Bitter sweets," still gets played on rock radio and at retro nights.
