Sydback formed in Porto Alegre, Brazil, in 2013 around vocalist Vinícius Brum, guitarist Pedro Fonseca, bassist André Konrath, and drummer Ricardo Drums. Their early sound mixed indie rock with Brazilian rhythms, which didn't immediately find an easy fit. They worked through that by playing live and recording, eventually putting out their first single 'Há Um Tempo' in 2015.
That song became their breakthrough, leading to their debut album 'Tempo' in 2017. The record included tracks like 'Fica Comigo' and 'Vozes,' and they later worked with other Brazilian artists including Tulipa Ruiz and Duda Beat. Their music drew both praise for crossing genres and some criticism for leaning toward mainstream appeal, but they kept making it on their own terms.
