Syrup16g formed in 1996 with Keiichi Miyako on vocals and guitar, Yoshiaki Manabe on bass, and Hidekazu Hinata on drums. Their early work had a raw, discordant feel that drew from shoegaze and post-punk. They put out their first album 'Hole' in 1999, followed by 'Killer Tune' the next year.
Some of their music appeared in anime series like 'Bleach' and 'Death Note,' which brought them wider attention. Songs like 'Deathparade' and 'Pisces' show the band's moody, introspective side. Hinata left in 2003, and Kazutoki Umezu joined on drums the following year.
In 2005, Miyako was arrested for drug possession, which became public and affected the band's standing. They kept recording through that period, eventually releasing 'Love & Peace' in 2015. That album returned to their earlier melancholic style while sounding more settled.
