T-Bo came out of New York City in the late 1970s. The band had Tim Bogert on vocals, Steve Cooper on guitar, and David Robinson on drums. Their sound pulled from punk, reggae, and soul, and they built a following in the city's underground scene.
In 1981 they put out their debut album, also called 'Comin' Down.' The title track became their best-known song, a stark ballad about addiction. Another track from that period, 'Who Is That?', also got some attention.
They released a few more albums after that, but the debut was the one that stuck. The lyrics often dealt with rough city life and social issues, which kept them in a certain lane. They were more of an underground act than a mainstream one, even when their songs got around.
