Tainá Poranga formed in 2013 in Salvador, Bahia, with Tainá Silva on vocals and percussion, David Gadelha on guitar and synths, and Paulo Motta on bass. Their debut album 'Solstício' came out in 2015. The single 'Better Without You' from 2017 got them wider attention.
Their music has drawn criticism from some conservative groups in Brazil for its feminist and LGBTQ+ supportive themes. In 2018, there were accusations of plagiarism from another Brazilian artist, which the band denied.
They released a second album called 'Sem Medo' in 2019.
