Taison Mattos came up in the forró scene of Fortaleza, playing percussion and singing with the band Forró Real. He went solo in 2013 with an album called Segura o Tchan, and its remix of Quica Manoela caught on nationally. That track, along with songs like Amor Falso and Como Dança Essa Menina, helped define his take on the genre.
His band includes Danielzinho on bass, Beto Forró on accordion, Izaias do Sax, and Arnaldo do Teclado. They've put out records like Forró do Tayson in 2015 and a live set from Fortaleza in 2017. The sound leans on traditional forró rhythms but often gets a brighter, more produced treatment in the studio.
Some listeners thought he was pushing the style too far toward pop, while others just heard the hooks. He kept recording through it, with albums like Na Batida do Forró in 2019 and O Rei do Forró in 2021.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
